April 1998 Meeting Data Warehousing: Are You Catching the Wave--Or Going Under? Speaker: Lorrey James Bianchi, Spectrum Technology Group Data Warehousing is a concept that allows data to be transformed into useful business information. When Data Warehousing first came on the scene, the results were mixed. The few big successes were expensive and long in coming to production. Recently, the "Data Mart" approach has been more successful, but companies have found themselves with disconnected "Island Marts". Now, putting information out across the Web makes the original promises of warehousing even more enticing. Will this approach be any more successful? How do you know what to do and where things are going? How can you be successful in all of this? This session will briefly review the first and second waves of Data Warehousing and will present a description of the coming third wave. We'll look at how business involvement, technology, and IT perspectives have changed over the last two years. We'll also explore how the future has been shaped by those changes. Finally, we'll see how being aware of these changes can affect the benefit you can obtain from data warehousing. Lorrey James Bianchi is Engagement Manager for the Northeast Region of Spectrum Technology Group, a leading consulting firm. Spectrum is nationally known for its expertise in information architecture, data warehousing, and data management, as well as its ability to leverage information for business benefits. |
