April 1999 Meeting
Web-ifying Legacy Applications
Speaker: Prasad Thammineni, Vice President, Enterprise Solutions Group
Specialized Software International
This month's presentation will focus on how to make your company's existing legacy
applications available on the World Wide Web. By using appropriate tools and technology,
you can avoid a costly rewrite of your core information systems, but still gain the
benefits of implementing systems on the Internet: lower costs, increased sales, and
improved customer satisfaction.
There are a number of different architectural options available to Web-enable your
applications. We will discuss the pros and cons of each approach for different legacy
situations. We will also discuss the appropriate uses of some of the best-of breed tools
and technologies such as Java, Corba, and MQ Series. The presentation will address legacy
applications in the following environments: mainframe, AS/400, and Client/Server.
Prasad Thammineni is the Vice President of Specialized Software's Enterprise Solutions
Group. He currently leads a team of 20 engineers and managers in providing Internet and
Java solutions for clients. Prasad has 8 years experience in the full life cycle
development of enterprise level database, middleware and three-tier Internet, Java and
client/server application development tools. A dynamic and interactive speaker, Prasad is
a frequent presenter at events like IDUG, SIGS Java Expo, Java Business Expo and various
